Mausoleum of Genghis Khan

The mausoleum of Genghis Khan is located in Yijin Huoluo Banner of Erdos, which is 180 kilometers away to the south of Baotou. The present mausoleum was built in 1954 and its construction style is simply magnificent. Genghis Khan, who had engaged in expedition all his life, had even extended the territory of Mongolia to the middle Asia. 


The mausoleum of Genghis Khan is the national AAAA level scenic area. The entire scenic area is composed by Sulede altar, three districts, two paths and eight sites with the mausoleum at the center. The mausoleum of Genghis Khan is consisted of three Mongolian style palaces and a corridor.

Every year, there are four sacrifices conducted at the mausoleum; on March 21st, May 15th, September 12th and October 3rd of lunar calendar. The sacrifice on March 21st of lunar calendar is held at the main palace. On that day, the local people from all directions will attend the ceremony. 


After the grand ceremony, many traditional activities such as horse race, archery and wrestling will be held.

How to Get to: Take bus from Baotou Bus Station to Erdos first, then take the sightseeing bus from Erdos square, Dongsheng Hotel, Erdos Hotel or Erdos Railway Station to the mausoleum.
