Magpie Festival

With the lunar calendar 7.7 closing, the magpie festival , also  called the Chinese Valentine’s Day, is affecting people’s emotions.

 

Originated from Han Dynasty, the Magpie Festival is a Chinese traditional festival which also belong to world culture heritage. It is said that in the evening of 7, July, women prayed for ingenuity to Vega. Later it is given the legend of the Cowherd and the Weaving Maid which made it more famous and romantic.

 

Nowadays, in China, the activities to celebrate the Magpie Festival varies with different areas. In Guangzhou, people have the tradition of caratal. But those who have married can’t take part in. And in southwest, girls paint fingernails and wash hair with seriflux extracting from trees in the hope of finding their Mr. Right.
