By admin on 2015-01-29

On March 23th, 2010, the Confucius Institute at Pfeiffer University had the honor of inviting Angelica Docog, the President of the Charlotte Museum of History, to give a training lecture for the entire faculty. The topic of her lecture is Ancient China: From the Neolithic Period to the Han Dynasty.

Ms. Angelica Docog graduated from the University of Manchester. She received her PhD degree in Chinese Archaeology. She is an expert in early Chinese art and archaeology. During her lecture she stated, “every object tells a story,” and showed the Confucius Institute staff many pictures of Chinese culture relics from the Neolithic Period to the Han Dynasty, such as Ritual food vessel (ding), Ritual implement (cong), Ritual food vessel (gui), Ritual Wine Vessel (hu), Jade Cicada, ect. She introduced each object from a western scholar’s point of view, which was helpful for all the Chinese teachers.

After the 2 hours’ lecture, all the Confucius Institute staff learned a lot about the archeology terms and Chinese history. Properly understanding Chinese history is an essential requirement for Chinese teachers. In the process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and promoting Chinese culture, the introduction of Chinese history to the foreign students helps them better understanding Chinese culture.
