Introduction to Degree Programs Instructing in English

Harbin Engineering University (short for HEU, formerly Harbin Military Engineering Institute) is located in Harbin, ice city, near beautiful Songhua River. HEU is one of national key universities in the national "211 Project" (to set up 100 national key universities in 21st Century) and the first batch of key constructed universities in China having graduate school. HEU is the major personnel training and scientific research important base in the field of shipbuilding engineering, ocean exploration, and nuclear energy applications.

Founded in 1953, at present, HEU has become to the comprehensive university focusing on engineering, combining with sciences, economics, humanities, and law; and also is the qualified institution of receiving Chinese Government Scholarship students. There are 3168 staff at HEU, including 8 academicians, 290 doctoral tutors, 1,180 professors and associate professors, and 24367 students in different levels and 600 foreign students; and has 11 post-doctoral research stations, 31 doctoral disciplines, 94 master's disciplines, (including MBA, MPA), and 50 undergraduate disciplines.

To promote the process of talents internationalization of education, HEU had raised the first batch of two master students in the degree program, instructing in English, of Design and Construction of Naval Architecture and Ocean Structure, national key discipline, since 1997; recently, the degree programs instructing in English have developed more characteristic and multi-level, such as shipbuilding, marine engineering, automation, computer science & technology, communication engineering, nuclear energy engineering, etc. totally 48 degree programs instructing in English, including 3 undergraduate programs, 30 postgraduate programs, and 15 doctoral programs. Since 1997, HEU has enrolled 185 international students, including 25 undergraduate students. 39 postgraduate students and 2 doctorate students had graduated from HEU degree programs with English instruction.

Adhering to the policies of internationalization and open-running, HEU has established the partnerships with over 100 universities and research institutions, more than 20 countries, such as California University, Berkeley, North Dakota State University, the University of Sydney, etc. about joint programs of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels.

International Students also work long way to go, as long as our tireless efforts to rigorous teaching attitude, people-oriented service culture, and constantly strengthening its own building, I will create a new chapter in the history of the work of school students.
