Chinese Language Teaching Conference Kicks off in Bulgaria
The second "Silk Road" international conference on Chinese language teaching and culture opened here on Tuesday, bringing together more than 40 experts from a dozen of universities.
Gu Weiping, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute in Sofia, said at the opening ceremony that the goal of the conference was to promote the spirit of the Silk Road and enhance cultural exchange and economic prosperity between Western and Eastern countries, for the benefit of the two peoples.
According to Yuan Jigang, head of the education section at the Chinese embassy in Bulgaria, the conference provided an opportunity for cooperation in the field of education and culture between China and European countries.
In turn, Tsvetan Teofanov, Dean of the Faculty of Classical and Modern Philology at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" said the Bulgarian society has increasingly felt deficiency of knowledge about the great, ancient China, and he hoped that such conferences on Sinology would be held more frequently.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Yanaki Stoilov, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee and head of the Friendship group Bulgaria-China at the Bulgarian Parliament, who said that it was important for his country to simultaneously develop bilateral scientific, cultural, educational and economic relations with China.
A total of 43 reports will be presented during the two-day event organized by the Confucius Institute in Sofia.
