China, Vietnam Vow to Maintain Friendly Relations
China and Vietnam vowed to expand mutually-beneficial cooperation, properly handle disputes in a spirit of equality and accommodation and uphold larger interests of bilateral friendly relations.
The statement was made in a joint press communique issued here Friday by the two governments on the occasion of the Vice-Chairman of China's Central Military Commission General Guo Boxiong wrapped up his Vietnam visit.
According to the communique, China and Vietnam will always treasure the traditional friendship built and fostered by Vietnamese late President Ho Chi Minh, Chinese late President Mao Zedong and leaders of both countries. The two countries will continue to consolidate and develop bilateral comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership.
Military ties are an important part of China-Vietnam relations. The two sides agreed to further strengthen military exchanges and cooperation, increase high-ranking visits between the two armies, exchange strategies and share experience in building and managing the armed forces, said the communique.
The two sides will also continue to cooperate in providing training and the exchange of military students. China will continue to provide short-term training programs for Vietnamese middle and high ranking officers, said the communique.
The two armies are an active force to safeguard security and interests of both countries, as well as regional peace and development, according to the communique.
At the invitation of Vietnamese Defense Minister and Senior General Phung Quang Thanh, General Guo Boxiong arrived in Hanoi Tuesday for an official visit. He has met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh respectively.
