The Mid-autumn Festival

On September 15, also the lunar calendar August 15, it is the Chinese Mid-autumn Festival. People gather together to have dinner and appreciate the full moon, which means the happy reunion of the family.

But do you know the history of the Mid-autumn Festival?

The legend of the Mid Autumn Festival

1)The Goddess Chang’E fly to the moon

It is a Chinese mythology. Long long ago, the earth had tenSuns. A man named HouYi was successful to shoot nine suns .And one sun left when ten suns appeared in the sky together. 

He saved the people. People all respected him. Then he married. A beautiful wife named Chang’E and took students. One of the Students: PengMeng was not an honest man. Once, HouYi got an elixir. But he didn’t want to go away from his wife. The elixir was kept in a drawer by Chang’E. PengMeng wanted to get 

The elixir while once HouYi going out with his students. Chang’E in order to not give elixir to a dishonest man. So she ate the elixir. She flew to the sky immediately. She flew to the closest star: moon because she worried about his husband. HouYi went back and heard what had happened, but PengMeng had already ran out. He suddenly saw a woman liked  his wife on the bright moon. He put his wife’s favorite food under the moon.

2)WuGang cut down trees

It is a Chinese mythology. Long long ago,  on the moon  there was a palace named The Moon Palace. There were a cherry bay. This tree was very lush and high. A man is used to cut down The tree.However, the tree had just been cut down, it was growing high again. The man must be Wugang. He had been studied try to make and then take pills of immortality and cultivate himself to become Immotal with a immotal. Once he made a mistake. So the immotal let him go to the moon and did this work.

The custom of the Mid-Autumn Festival

1)Eat mooncakes 

Most of mooncakes are round. This is the shape of moon.Mooncakes have many kind of flavors, like bean paste,  egg, meat and so on. They are always very sweets.In the past, mooncakes are the sacrifice. And then people think mooncakes represent family can get together. So people in Mid-Autumn Festival must eat mooncakes. This meaning is the family can be together forever and ever.

2)Watch the moon

On the evening of the Mid-Autumn Festival, we must watch the moon. On this day, the moon will become specially bright and round.The moon has wax and wane. watch the round Moon means we can have a happy family ,Happy life.We should watch the moon with all the family Members. 

3)Family get together

During the Mid-Autumn Festival. Almost all of work unit will give a holiday. So, we should get together and then we can eat moon cakes, watch moon and so on.If we don’t get together, not matter we worship the moon again and again, we can’t have a perfect life. 

Our foreign students are just arriving school for the new term, why not take this chance to go outside with new friends to feel the festival or watch the evening party on TV. Hope everyone to have a enjoyful festival in China!
