Last week, a CNN report on a Migrant worker who solved complex math problems aroused world attention and he is also called the Chinese “Good Will Hunting”
Yu Jianchun, an ordinary logistic worker in Xiasha, Hangzhou has captivated the world with his performance on a workshop with six scholars in Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. Invited by Pro.f Cai Tianxin, Yu Jianchun explained his five mathematical discoveries among which, two are known previously. Other three, which once are found correct, could be a tremendous step in math field.Later, a number of foreign media have reported his story that made him quite a reputation at a time.
According to Yu, every time he moves to a place,he will send his discoveries to professions in local universities. Apart from that, every day after work he will spent one or two hours reading mathematical books. Now invited by Lin Lanfang, president of Silkroad Co., who is also a hobbyist in math, Yu attended the job also as a worker but with more time digging into the math field. Prof. Cai said that as for now, Yu is still in lack of systematical learning and needs other knowledge to support him if he wants to go further in this field. Now Yu Jainchun goes on learning while working.
There’s no limit in academic field. And in China, most universities open for people. Just simple procedures and you could attend the class as a visitor and also exchange ideas with professions. Academic freedom is hard to achieve, but now in China many universities are getting close to it and they welcome foreign students to add more color to the university.
