Studying at WISE and Xiamen University has been an amazing educational and cultural experience. In addition to gaining an advanced degree in Economics, I have also had the opportunity to study the Chinese language and explore the history and culture of an emerging global superpower. One unexpected benefit of the program was the diversity of the student body. During my time here, I have made new friends from every continent. We travelled together, studied together, ate and drank together, and I look forward to visiting each one of them in the future in their respective parts of the world. Studying at WISE has challenged me academically, opened up my world view, and has given me the skills to compete in the global job market.

WISE/SOE not only provided me with useful academic knowledge, here at Xiamen University, I studied in one of the best tourism spots in China, met great people from all over the world, was taught and assisted by friendly and professional faculties and staff. First of all, I love Xiamen, the most beautiful city located in southern Fujian province, an ancestral home to most of oversea Chinese. The city was one of the Special Economic Zones opened to foreign investment and trade.  Moreover, it was ranked as China's second most suitable city for living. As a Chinese American, I wanted to take the advantage to study Chinese economy in China, thus I would have in depth understanding of how to conduct business with China and also explore possible business opportunities.  I have decided to pursue my Master Degree of International Business in Xiamen University, also because the School of Economics in Xiamen University offers courses in English that focus on economy, business and investment in China, the curriculum design will help me master the ability to analyze and fully understand the current and future development of the Chinese economy.  I am really impressed that faculty members are very knowledgeable and helpful. Most of them came from different ethnic backgrounds. Besides, they have studied abroad, and conducted economic research or obtained working experiences from major universities, research institutes or government departments in many countries.

In addition, in the beginning of the year, the staff members have organized social events and activities to create cultural experiences. We have visited local scenary, Hakka Village (tulou), which is one of the wonderful creations in Fujian Province.  Moreover, the English Corner helps non-Chinese students to learn and practice Chinese to enhance cross cultural communications. Other activities such as tea networking event and dumpling making workshop were arranged to foster the interaction with local fellow students.

I really enjoy studying in Xiamen University and I like this city with nice blend of western and eastern cultures.
