Street Fair of the Bai Ethnic Group
The Street Fair of the Bai ethnic group is held from the 15th day to the 21st day of the third lunar month every year in the Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Dali in Yunnan Province, at the eastern foot of the Midway Harmony Peak of Mount Xicang, near the ancient city of Dali. People come to worship the Goddess of Mercy, who was said to have subdued a demon that was terrorizing the Bai people during the Tang Dynasty.
The Fair has now developed into a trade market. Sports competitions are held as well. It is noted as a gathering for economic and cultural exchanges, attracting over one million people every year.
