Learn Chinese culture and Chinese idioms
If you are a language learner who studies Chinese, you must familiar with Learning Chinese idioms. Chinese idiom is a great important step on the way you learn Chinese. Each or Chengyu, is a short phrase, usually with a Chinese story with significant and interesting meaning, and accompanied with Pinyin and English annotation. Chinese idioms usually consist of four characters. And Chinese idioms (Cheng Yu) do not follow the usual grammatical structure and syntax of the modern Chinese language, and are instead highly compact and synthetic. A Chinese idiom story will not only tell you the meaning of a phrase, but also help you learn more about ancient Chinese culture.

Learn Chinese---- Idiom Story: 孙敬,是汉朝有名的政治家,每天从早到晚读书. Sūn Jìng, shì hàncháo yŏumíng de zhèngzhìjiā, mĕitiān cóng zăo dào wăn dúshū. 有时会疲倦得直打瞌睡,他便找了一根绳子,一头绑在 Yŏushí huì píjuàn dé zhí dă kēshuì, tā biàn zhăo le yì gēn shéngzi, yì tóu băng zài 房梁上,一头束在头发上,当他读书打盹时,头一低, fángliáng shàng, yì tóu shù zài tóufa shàng, dāng tā dúshū dádŭn shí, tóu yì dī, 绳子就会扯住头发,自然也就不瞌睡了。苏秦,战国时著 shéngzi jiù huì chĕ zhù tóufa, zìrán yĕ jiù bù kēshuì le. Sū Qín, zhànguó shí zhù 名的纵横家, 读书时他准备了一把锥子,一打瞌睡,便 míng de zònghéngjiā, dúshū shí tā zhŭnbèi le yì bă zhuīzi, yì dă kēshuì, biàn 用锥子往自己的大腿上刺,强迫自己清醒过来。后人 yòng zhuīzi wăng zìjĭ de dàtuĭ shàng cì, qiăngpò zìjĭ qīngxĭng guò lái. Hòurén 从苏秦和孙敬两人勤奋苦学的故事中,引申出了“悬梁刺股”这 cóng Sū Qín hé Sūn Jìng liăng rén qínfènkŭxué de gùshi zhōng, yĭnshēn chū le zhè 个成语,用来比喻发奋读书、刻苦学习的精神。 ge chéngyŭ, yòng lái bĭyù fāfèn dúshū, kè kŭ xuéxí de jīngshén.
English Translation: In ancient China, there are two people, named Sūn Jìng and Sū Qín, who studied very hard. But when they studied for a long time, they dozed off. Then one tied his hair to the house beam, and the other stuck an awl in his calf, so that they accomplished in their studies.
