Now situated near Wu Tai Shan Sports Center and Xin Jie Kou central business district in central Nanjing, Nanjing Medical University was originally founded in Zhenjiang in 1934 as National Jiangsu Medical College. The college was moved to Nanjing in 1957 and renamed Nanjing Medical College. In 1962, it joined the first group of medical universities in China to offer six-year programs, and was approved to award doctoral and master's degrees in 1981. In 1993, it was renamed Nanjing Medical University with the approval of the State Educational Committee. Currently a comprehensive university with the disciplines of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Biology, Management and Law, Nanjing Medical University enjoys high regard at home and abroad.
Nanjing Medical University consists of two campuses, Wutai and Jiangning, and is comprised of 14 schools: the School of Basic Medical Sciences, the First School of Clinical Medicine, the Second School of Clinical Medicine, the Third School of Clinical Medicine, the School of Gulou Clinical Medicine, the School of Stomatology, the School of Public Health, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Medical Policy and Management, the School of International Education, the Kangda School, the School of Continuing Education, and the School of Higher Vocational and Technical Education. It has 17 affiliated hospitals in Nanjing, Changzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou and Huai'an.
Nanjing Medical University has 3 post-doctoral programs, 1 first-level doctoral program, 35 second-level doctorate programs, 42 second-level master's programs, two six-year dual bachelor's degree programs, and three seven-year programs. In addition, we offer 1 key laboratory at ministry level, 2 key laboratories co-established by the ministry and the provincial government, 3 national key disciplines, 7 provincial key disciplines, and 7 provincial key laboratory/ research centers. At the university, there are 11 research institutes and 16 research centers. As Jiangsu Province' primary medical library and the medical literature center of its universities' literature service system, our library has an inventory of 1,040,330 volumes and 10,000 individual periodical titles.
Today Nanjing Medical University has 198 full professors, 549 associate professors, 94 supervisors of doctoral programs and 278 supervisors of master's programs. Student enrollment is over 10,000.
Nanjing Medical University takes an active role in developing relationships with higher- education institutions in China and abroad. Since the 1980s, the university has conducted academic exchanges with hospitals and medical institutions in the U.S.A, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, U.K, Austria, Australia, Russia, Hong Kong, and elsewhere. Several prestigious experts and scholars have been conferred Nanjing Medical University Honorary or Guest Professorships. The university has sent 500 faculty members abroad for short visits or long-term study.

The qualified applicant should be under 35 year-old with good physical and mental health, and outstanding school grades, which is equivalent to foreign citizen received Chinese senior high school diploma (intermediate level/ 10+2/ A-level). Applicant who is really extraordinary excellent can gain the privilege to prolong the age limitation, after passing the final evaluation of the university.

To the applicant who abandoned his/her original Chinese nationality then joined a foreign nationality, Nanjing Medical University follows the Document No. 83 (2009) from Ministry of Education of China, which can be generally found as follows: If the applicant, who emigrates from any region like China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan, applies for our university as an international student, then he/she should hold the valid foreign passport or nationality prove for above (including) four years, and a record of actual living in the abroad in the recent four years (actual living in the abroad at least for nine months can be counted as one year, which is subject to the signature page of the passport entry and exit.) . According to the Document No. 83 from the Ministry of Education of China, applicant who abandoned his/her Chinese Nationality then joined a foreign nationality, should submit the documents as follows: Naturalization prove; Cancellation of the original proof of residence; Signature page of the passport entry and exit of the last four years; Study certificate in the abroad in recent four years.

Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship
CANDIDATES:
Excellent international students who is willing to pursue a bachelor’s degree or above at provincial level in Jiangsu Province.
CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health.
2. Applicants for master’s degree programs must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
3. Applicants for bachelor’s degree programs must have finished their Senior High School study and are under the age of 25.
4. Applicants must comply with the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and meet the admission qualifications of NMU.
5. Applicants should have good academic performance with a right learning attitude.
6. Applicants should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.
VALUES OF SCHOLARSHIP:
The scholarship is awarded to subsidize all types of applicants’ expenditures during their studying in Jiangsu Province. The scholarship distribution is implemented under the annual review system. Only when the applicants are assessed to be qualified can the scholarship be awarded to the winners within the specified schooling duration of the curricula education.

6. On the Application Form for the Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship, applicants must indicate the names of other universities they have applied to or are planning to apply to.

APPROVAL AND NOTIFICATION:
Upon receipt of international students’ applications, the Scholarship Evaluation Team of NMU will, according to the principles of fairness, impartiality and openness, assess all the applications in accordance with the current scholarship quota of NMU and the results will be forwarded to the applicants in written form by September 1st of each year. Those who cannot register on the specified date, unless permission has been obtained from NMU will be regarded as voluntarily giving up their qualification of enrollment and the obtained scholarship will be automatically canceled as well. Scholarship winners should take their passports, Admission Notice, and Foreigner Physical Examination Record to the Jiangsu Province International Travel Health Care Center to obtain a medical examination. Those with Foreigner Physical Examination Records that have been checked as unqualified must take another medical examination. Anyone who takes the physical examination and is diagnosed with one or more diseases that would, by Chinese laws and regulations, forbid him/her from entering, he/she shall be ordered to leave China and the obtained scholarship will be automatically cancelled as well. Fees for the physical examination and return travel are self-paid.
ANNUAL REVIEW:
An annual review will be performed each year through a comprehensive evaluation of NMU international students who enjoy the Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship (hereinafter referred to as “Scholarship”) to determine whether those students are eligible to continue to enjoy or to be restored to enjoy the scholarship.
I. CANDIDATES
International students who have studied at NMU for more than one year or those who apply for an extension of scholarship duration after finishing their original study period.
II. CONTENTS
1. Academic performance (including the examination of all the subjects in the first semester and the general study situation in the second semester of the current academic year).
2. Learning attitude and attendance.
3. Behavior and disciplinary situation.
III. PRECEDURE
1. Scholarship winners should, by the specified date and according to the requirements of NMU, truthfully complete the Form for Annual Review of Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship Status issued by the Jiangsu Province Government, and submit the form to NMU within the specified period of time.
2. NMU will, in accordance with the requirements and criteria of the annual review, complete the assessment opinions and suggestions on the Form for Annual Review of Jasmine Jiangsu Government Scholarship Status and submit the review form, which includes the assessment report, assessment results and a list of the names of qualified and unqualified students to the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education by May 15th of each year.
IV. SUSPENSION OF SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY
Scholarship eligibility may be suspended for one year with the existence any one of the following situations:
1. Students who are ordered to repeat or are demoted for unqualified assessment results.
2. Students who fail to meet the required credits on courses completed in the two consecutive years.
3. Students who are given the punishment of “under observation.”
V. CANCELLATION OF SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship eligibility may be canceled with the existence any one of the following situations:
1. Students who are ordered to leave or who are expelled.
2. Students who fail to pass the annual review two times in accumulation during their study at NMU.
3. Students who refuse to participate in the annual review without proper reasons.
Notes: Students who have had their Scholarship eligibility canceled can never be restored.
Nanjing Government Scholarship
CANDIDATES:
Candidates are foreign students who accept full-time academic education or non-academic education in colleges and universities in Nanjing.
CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
1. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health.
2. Applicants must comply with the laws and regulations of the Chinese government and meet the admission qualifications of NMU.
3. Applicants for bachelor’s degree programs must have finished their Senior High School study and are under the age of 28. Applicants for master’s degree programs must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35. Applicants for PhD programs must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
4. Foreigners with bachelor’s degree or above who will pursue higher degree or accept six months or more non-academic education in related colleges and universities.
5. Applicants should have good academic performance with a right learning attitude.
6. Applicants should not be awardees of other Chinese government scholarships at the same time.
7. We will give priority to applicants who have some Chinese language background and can provide the relative certificates (for example, HSK certificate, or other certificates of Chinese language learning or tests). The requirement for applicants in some English-teaching majors can be broadened.
SCHOLARSHIP CONTENT & FUNDING CRITERIA:

Those who don’t register on time without University’s permission will be regarded as voluntarily giving up their qualification of enrollment and the obtained scholarship will be automatically canceled as well.

Scholarship for Outstanding International students (Undergraduates)
CANDIDATES:
Candidates should be undergraduate international students who have studied at NMU for more than one academic year and obtained a good academic record.
CRITERIA & ELIGIBILITY:
High motivation and good academic record
No violation of China’s laws and the University’s regulations
c. Respect for teachers and friendly behavior in class
d. Respectful of local customs and contributive to the friendship between applicant’s motherland and China
e. Spirit of teamwork and active participation in all kinds of activities organized by the University and the School
International students with any of the following situations in the previous academic year will be excluded from the scholarship:
a. Applicant is in an extended study period or has graduated
b. Administrative punishment for violating the regulations of entry and exit for foreigners
c. Warning or heavier punishment for violating the regulations of the University and the School
d. Failure in the final examination of any course
TYPES AND VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIP:
a. Outstanding International students scholarship: one-time award CNY 2,000 /Average score of 75 or above
b. The single item scholarship winner: one-time award CNY 500
APPLICATION:
Applicants shall apply directly to the Student Affairs Office of SIE. The selection procedure begins in September of every year.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS:
The applicants must complete and submit the following documents truthfully, correctly, and completely:

b. Original and one copy of recreation and sports contribution Certificates
c. Other relevant materials
PROCEDURE:
a. The materials submitted by candidates are examined by a group of experts organized by SIE before being sent to the vice president in charge of the University for approval.
b. SIE holds a scholarship award meeting and prints the names of winners in the NMU Campus Newspaper.
OTHER CLAUSES:
If any scholarship winner is found to have cheating behaviors, the University shall cancel his/her scholarship and give him/her a disciplinary punishment.
Applicant Qualifications
APPLICATION DATE
Apply before June 30th every year and enroll in September or apply before March and take a 6-month Chinese language training course and begin study in their majors in September.
Tuition Fees
Every student must pay the following fees on the Registration Day:
1. Registration Fee (Non-refundable): CNY 500;
2. Tuition Fee (Per Year): CNY 34,000;
3. Accommodation Fee (Per Year): CNY 6,000(double room);
4. Refundable Deposit: CNY 4,000 (refund on Graduation Day).
Note: In the first academic year the university will provide the following things with no charge: ①Bedding; ②Textbooks; ③Accidental Injury and Hospitalization Insurance; ④Laboratory Clothes; ⑤Physical Examination; ⑥Residence Permit for one year; ⑦Campus Card (containing CNY 200 to be used for food, bathe and borrowing books from library of the University). Moreover, the university will continue to provide textbooks and accidental injury and hospitalization insurance for free till the graduation. All the new international students must pay all the fees once on the Registration Day and anyone who doesn’t pay on time shall be fined with 5% of the total amount of fees.
