Learn Chinese Favored Color-Red

In learning Chinese, you will find  Chinese people prefer red, which is quite different from the westerners. As is  known, the westerners consider red to be related to blood and violence. However,  in China, red symbolizes good fortune and joy. Red is found everywhere during  Chinese New Year and other holidays and family gatherings. A red envelope is a  monetary gift which is given in Chinese society during holiday or special  occasions. The red color of the packet symbolizes good luck. Red is strictly  forbidden at funerals as it is a traditionally symbolic color of happiness.

In the old days,  girls are supposed to wear red clothes in their wedding days. And wedding rooms  are invariably decorated with red to show joy and happiness. Other things around  the house are all decorated with red cloth to symbolize good fortune. Nowadays,  the young people tend to choose white wedding gowns under the influence of  western countries, but the decorations remain exclusively red. In modern China,  red remains a very popular color and is affiliated with and used by the  Communist government. Your Chinese  teachers must have introduced the five-star red flag of China to you, which  is totally red and represents the blood the soldiers shed to drive off the  intruders during the world wars in the past.

To learn Chinese culture, you need to  know that red is always a favored color in China, if you see a house decorated  with red, there must be something joyous around the corner.
