How to Put What You Learned into Practical Use

An Apria of learning Chinese is how to relate the context used in Classroom with the real conversational communication. To start a conversation is much more difficult than expected.

Some foreigners who have been learning Chinese for years seem all at sea when they are really in China. For instance, they may know clearly how to ask the way, because they have been taught to do so in Chinese lessons. However, in a restaurant full of people, and nowhere to sit down, how to start a conversation? According to English custom, one might say: “Excuse me.” But in Chinese, it is improper to say “对不起” (sorry) in this situation. As a result, the foreigners have no idea what to say, so they just keep silent. The problem is that no matter how proficient they are in vocabulary and grammar of this language, they cannot communicate with others under some circumstances. It is crucial to grasp some patterns of conversation so that foreign Chinese learners are able to convey their meanings on different occasions.

To learn mandarin, one must try to start a conversation which assists him or her to practice oral Chinese. To start a conversation properly, it requires considerable knowledge in conversational principles. If you don’t have time to come to a Chinese-speaking place, you can do it by watching Chinese movies and dramas, in which various conversation principles are involved. You can also learn mandarin online, by communicating with native Chinese; you can gain considerable knowledge of appropriate means of expression.
