Preparatory Meeting of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” Held in SYSU
On the afternoon of July 10, the preparatory meeting of joint implementation of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” by colleges and universities in Guangzhou University City was held on East Campus, with an aim to convey the instruction of Wan Qingliang, member of the Standing Committee of CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of Guangzhou Party Committee, and unite 10 universities in Guangzhou University City to conduct the research project of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program”.
Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, Cheng Huanwen, Assistant to SYSU President, Hu Zhenmin, Deputy Inspector of Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Lu Yixian, Secretary of Panyu District Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of Panyu District People’s Congress, Lou Xukui, Mayor of Panyu District, Lin Weichang, Deputy Mayor of Panyu District, representatives from 10 universities including South China University of Technology and South China Normal University, leaders of related departments of Panyu District, Professor Yuan Qifeng and Professor Yu Zhimin, experts of SYSU research group of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program”, participated in the meeting.

The meeting conveyed the instruction of Secretary Wan Qingliang about “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” and informed the participants of the relevant work. Professor Yuan Qifeng of SYSU research group presented a preliminary scheme. Cheng Huanwen, Assistant to SYSU President, made some suggestions on joint implementation of the program. Representatives from relevant universities had heated discussions in the meeting and promised to actively take part in the program and make contributions to the development of Guangzhou University City and Panyu District.
Secretary Lu Yixian pointed out in his speech that through 8 years of development Guangzhou University City has made active contributions to the economic and social development at the provincial, municipal and district level, and helped the universities become bigger and stronger. The implementation of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” will help solve the problems existing in the development of Guangzhou University City in a coordinated manner, promote the opening and sharing of high quality educational resources, further activate the academic potential and elevate the overall level of Guangzhou University City.
Secretary Zheng Detao stated that “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program” has milestone significance in the development of Guangzhou University City. It will elevate the 10 universities, improve their functions, accelerate the construction of south education highland, and enhance the soft power of Guangzhou Municipality and Panyu District. The universities in Guangzhou University City should attach great importance to the formulation, perfection and implementation of “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program”, pay attention to overall planning, highlight the focus, establish responsibility mechanism, implement the program step by step and advance together. Secretary Zheng Detao also said that Sun Yat-sen University will actively participate in “Guangzhou University City Enhancement Program”, and provide good service and effective communication.
